Duong Van Nga was the Empress of two Emperors during the early period of state establishment in Vietnamese history – Đinh Tiên Hoàng and Lê Đại Hành. In 979, King Đinh Tiên Hoàng was assassinated by Đỗ Thích. On the northern border, the Song invaders took advantage of the chaotic situation in Đại Cồ Việt, preparing to invade. Faced with this situation, Dương Vân Nga made a very skillful move, resolving everything at once. She contributed to maintaining peace in the realm by selecting the right talent to assist the country by relinquishing the throne to Lê Hoàn. Her actions were regarded as those of a stateswoman of historical significance in turbulent times, not driven by personal interests but rather for the greater good of the nation.
